The Via2-Cassette™ is a specialized cell sampling and staining device used with the NucleoCounter® instruments for viability and cell count applications. The cassette contains immobilized acridine orange (AO) and 4’,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) to distinguish between the total cell and dead cell populations, respectively.
The total analyzed volume is approximately 1.35 µl. However, this volume can vary due to production tolerances. In order to obtain the highest possible precision, each cassette is volume-calibrated during production. The measured volume is printed on the cassette using a binary dot-code. This code is read and interpreted by the NucleoCounter® instrument and the information is used to calculate the concentration of cells in the sample.
The Via2-Cassette™ provides a safe, non-toxic cell counting system, as it puts an end to the need for trypan blue to stain cells. Trypan blue is carcinogenic, and operators are potentially exposed to the stain when performing cell counting procedures. Please see the Via2-Cassette™ Conformity Statement for safety details.
The Via2-Cassette™ is used with the NucleoCounter® NC-202™ instrument. We also recommend using the cassette with the NucleoCounter® NC-200™ instrument if cell cultures have been exposed to environmental stress factors such as freezing, heat shock or oxidative stress.
